If you are working at height on a construction site in Georgetown, an oil and gas facility on the East Coast, or a scaffolding job anywhere across Guyana, fall protection is not something to take lightly. The right harness and langard combination could be the difference between going home safe and not going home at all. At The Hardware Depot, we carry a full range of fall protection equipment right here in Georgetown. This guide walks you through exactly what you need, based only on products we stock.
What exactly is a langard?
A lot of people here in Guyana search for “langard” and yes, that is the same thing as a lanyard in fall protection. A langard is the connecting strap or rope that links your full-body harness to a fixed anchor point above you.
Think of it this way. The harness wraps around your body and distributes the force of a fall across your chest, shoulders, and legs. The langard connects you to a certified anchor point. Together they form your Personal Fall Arrest System. You cannot use a langard safely without a proper full-body fall arrest harness. A waist belt alone is not acceptable for fall arrest because it concentrates all the impact force at your waist and can cause serious internal injuries.
Langards available at The Hardware Depot
Internal shock langard — 6 ft single leg with snap hooks
This is the most in-demand fall protection product we carry. The Internal Shock Langard 6ft Single Leg with Snap Hooks has the energy absorber built directly inside the strap itself, making it lighter than external shock-pack designs. It does not stretch during normal use and only deploys on a real fall, which keeps the connection firm while you work.

Ironwear langards — snap hook and rebar hook
The Hardware Depot carries Ironwear langards in two hook configurations. The Ironwear Langard with Snap Hook is the standard option for most steel and concrete anchor points. For rebar-heavy construction sites, the Ironwear Langard with Rebar Hook clips directly onto rebar without needing an anchor adapter.

Full-body harnesses available at The Hardware Depot
A langard is only half the system. You need a certified full-body fall arrest harness that fits your body correctly and meets ANSI standards. A harness that is too loose will not arrest a fall correctly and can shift or concentrate force in the wrong areas.

Full body positioning harness — model FS285
The Full Body Positioning Harness FS285 is designed for workers who need to stay in a fixed position at height for extended periods. Tower climbers, utility workers, and inspection crews. The side D-rings let you rig a positioning langard so you can lean back and have both hands free to work.
Lifelines and positioning lines
Ironwear self-retracting lifeline
The Ironwear Self-Retracting Lifeline works like a seatbelt. The line extends freely as you move and retracts when you step back. In a fall it locks instantly, arresting the drop in a fraction of the distance a fixed langard requires. The right choice for rooftop work, elevated work platforms, and anywhere you need to move freely without managing slack.

Peakworks vertical lifeline rope — 50 ft
The Peakworks Vertical Lifeline Rope 50ft is used with a rope grab device for workers moving vertically alongside a structure. This is the standard setup for telecom and antenna crews across Guyana.
Rope-type lifeline for positioning — 6 ft (Vangard)
The Vangard Rope-Type Lifeline for Positioning 6ft is a cost-effective positioning line for workers holding a fixed position at height. Pair it with a harness that has side D-rings.
Chain-type positioning line (Vangard)
For welding and cutting at height where synthetic webbing can be damaged by heat and sparks, the Vangard Chain-Type Positioning Line is the durable, abrasion-resistant option.
Anchor equipment
Every fall arrest system needs a certified anchor point. The Peakworks Roof Anchor Bracket attaches to wood roof surfaces with roofing nails, giving you a fast temporary anchor for roofing jobs. It connects directly to your langard and is designed to be used with the Peakworks fall arrest system.
How to inspect your harness and langard before every shift
This step saves lives. Any harness or langard that has been involved in a fall, stored poorly, or exposed to chemicals must be taken out of service immediately. Before every shift, check the following.
- Webbing — look for fraying, cuts, burns, chemical staining, or stiffness anywhere along the strap
- Stitching — check every stitched joint and load-bearing seam for broken or loose threads
- D-rings and buckles — confirm they are not bent, cracked, corroded, or deformed in any way
- Snap hooks — the gate must close and lock fully with zero play or wobble
- Shock absorber — if the deployment indicator flag is showing, the unit has activated and must be replaced immediately
- Overall condition — if anything looks wrong or feels wrong, pull it from service and replace it
